Rabbi Michael Paley: Hanuka – Rewriting our story
In the early XX. century the festival of Chanukah was reshaped for the purpose of the zionist narratives. Understanding and interpreting the story was closely tided to once’s political perspective of the future of the Jewish people.
Was it a miracle or a war? Was it spiritual or entirely human? Who were the heroes and who were the villains?
We will use our conversation to introduce the new Tarbut leadership Fellowship and use the zionist understandings as a way of analyzing the consequences of various zionist leadership decisions.
