Soaring Hungarian synagouges – history and meaning (ENG)
You can’t travel to Hungary this year? Don’t worry, we will bring Hungary to you! We are pleased to invite you to our next JCC Budapest / Junction / Tarbut partnership online event with Rabbi Michael Paley on Tuesday, July 7th at 11am EDT / 5 PM CET.
Rabbi Paley will be hosting the incredible Dr. Rudolf Klein, Hungary’s most famous architectual historian. They will talk about four incredible Hungarian synagouges, their architecture and the story of the communities they represent:
the famous Dohány synagouge – the largest synagouge of Europe
the just renovated Rumbach synagouge – now inactive but once home to the unique status quo ante community
the marvelous synagouge of Szeged – designed by the famous Lipót Baumhorn
the breathtaking synagouge of Subotice (Szabadka) – designed in Hungarian “Matyó” style
Join us and let us bring to you these buildings, their history and their meaning.
