NAGYI PROJEKT
(magyar-angol dokumentumfilm, 90 perc, 2017)

Ez a hét éven át forgatott dokumentumfilm három unoka utazásait követi nyomon, akik a nagymamáikkal beszélgetnek a II. világháború életüket befolyásoló eseményeiről. A film három fiatalember felnőtté válásának és nagymamáik múltjának története – egy tényleges és egy szimbolikus utazás formájában. Ahogyan a fiúk bebarangolják Európát, a nagyik – egy angol kém, egy náci németországi táncosnő és egy magyar kommunista holokauszttúlélő – felelevenítik élményeiket, egy virtuális utazás is kibontakozik a huszadik század történelmébe. Révész Bálint szellemes és friss hangvételű dokumentumfilmje sikerrel szerepelt a nemzetközi filmfesztiválokon, és elnyerte a magyar filmkritikusok legjobb dokumentumfilmnek járó díját.

A Politikatörténeti Intézet az EUnited We Stand EU-s projekt (www.eab-berlin.eu/en/project/eu-united-we-stand) keretében szeptember 23-24-én egy két napos rendezvényt szervez Budapesten, amin a partnereink delegáltjai is részt vesznek (Franciaország, Németország, Lengyelország és Bulgária). Mivel ez egy European Remembrance projekt, a rendezvények az európai történelemnek az európai emlékezet számára meghatározó egyes eseményei köré szerveződnek, hogy ezen módon is segítsék a történelmi emlékezetre való reflektálást.

GRANNY PROJECT

Three grandsons embark with their grannies on an anarchic journey into the past – a complex road movie about intergenerational dialogue in Great Britain, Germany and Hungary. It’s a coming of age story of three young men and a ‘coming out of age’ tale of their grandmothers, an experiment to form a language which the forthcoming generations could use to keep the values, generated in the 20th century, alive. The film is a seven-year-long investigation of three young men coming to terms with their traumatic heritage through the extraordinary lives of their grandmothers: an English spy, a dancer from Nazi Germany and a Hungarian communist Holocaust survivor.

BACKGROUND:
EU – united we stand is an international initiative to create a space for citizens to discuss and work on raising awareness of remembrance, common values and the aim of the EU basing on the most defining moments in the recent European history. The consortium’s work is dedicated to the memory of the change of regime in Europe. As the politics of memory regarding the Holocaust played a significant normative role in the acession process of the post-communist countries, and the memory of the Holocaust is an epsecially salient issue in Budapest, we decided to organize our event around these issues: a critcial lecture on the post-1989 politics of memory and contributions from fellow historians and memory activists, followed by a discussion with the audience. We hope to make participants sensitive to the inherent contradictions between politics of memory, ethical normativity and history, while providing a persepctive on how and why the memory of the Holocaust is still, with all the contradictions, important for a democratic society.
