Guided tour in English of the permanent exhibition „From Deprivation of Rights to Genocide”
During this English language guided tour, visitors will have the opportunity to follow the processes that led eventually to the destruction of one of the largest Jewish communities in Europe. The permanent exhibition of the Holocaust Memorial Center in Budapest describes the persecution, suffering and murder of Hungarian citizens, first of all Jews and Roma, sentenced to physical destruction.
The main motive of the exhibition is the relationship between the state and the citizen. From 1938 onwards, the Hungarian state gradually deprived a certain group of its citizens of their rights, properties, freedom, human dignity, and finally their mere life. This process accelerated fatally in 1944, after the German occupation.
Parallel to the political and military history, visitors learn about this period through a series of real family and personal stories that run throughout the exhibition.
