cântece Yiddish din Ungaria, România și Moldova pe Aleea La Papion, într-un proiect muzical unic.

Biletele se găsesc în Cafeneua La Papion. Prețul unui bilet este de 15 lei și include și o băutură din partea casei.

FOX-ROSEN/SHULMAN-MENT DUO TOUR IN TRANSYLVANIA
JULY 19-24, 2016

Benjy Fox-Rosen and Jake Shulman-Ment Duo, two of the leading young voices of the international klezmer scene will tour Transylvania, Romania from July 19-24, 2016, presenting a new program of beautiful and virtuosic splendor. Benjy Fox-Rosen (voice, double bass) and Jake Shulman-Ment (voice, violin) join together in a duo project exploring Jewish string music and Yiddish songs from Hungary, Romania and Moldova. Both Fox-Rosen and Shulman-Ment have lived and researched extensively in the region, assimilating regional styles into their own work as performers. This original and captivating program is not to be missed!

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Benjy Fox-Rosen is a singer, bassist and composer currently splitting his time between Vienna, Austria and Transylvania, Romania. Hailed by the Forward as “one of the rising stars in the Yiddish music scene,” in 2014 Fox-Rosen released to critical acclaim “Two Worlds / Tsvey Veltn,” a song-cycle of original compositions set to the poetry of beloved Yiddish bard, Mordechai Gebirtig (1877-1942). The album was named one of the top five Jewish music recording of 2014 (The Forward). In 2012-2013 Fox-Rosen was a Fulbright Scholar in Moldova where he researched commonalities in Moldovan folk music and Yiddish song. Fox-Rosen has performed at Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, the Krakow Jewish Culture Festival, Wiener Festwochen, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and on many other stages internationally. He has taught workshops at the New England Conservatory, the Vilnius Yiddish Institute, Klezkanada and Klezkamp.

Born in New York City, violinist Jake Shulman-Ment is among the leaders of a new generation of Klezmer and Eastern European folk music performers. He has performed and recorded internationally with Daniel Kahn and the Painted Bird, Di Naye Kapelye, Adrian Receanu, The Other Europeans, Frank London, Duncan Sheik, and many more. Jake has been a faculty member of New York’s Henry Street Settlement, KlezKamp, KlezKanada, Klezmer Paris, the Krakow Jewish Culture Festival, Yiddish Summer Weimar, and other festivals throughout the globe. In 2010 Jake received a Fulbright research grant to collect, study, perform, and document traditional music in Romania. Jake’s debut solo CD, “A Redele (A Wheel)” (Oriente Musik, 2012) was nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award.
